May 20, 2011 – Do you want to eliminate dust mites, mold and mildew for a cleaner, healthier, spring-like fresh smelling home? When you get out of the shower do you want to eliminate “dampness” on your skin within a minute after drying off with a towel? As you apply make-up at your bathroom sink do you want comfort without perspiration?

Kent Heating and Air Conditioning periodically installs and tests different products in employee’s homes in order to test the effectiveness of products they recommend. A new Lennox “Healthy Climate” model WH-090 whole house dehumidifier was installed recently, and yielded astonishing results with the goal of lowering the relative humidity level to 50% or lower.

Two hours after the installation the relative humidity was 62% in the home, and dropped to 41% after 6 hours. We adjusted the desired humidity level up past the normal setting (saving energy), and the following morning had to adjust it upwards again as the humidity level was 39%.

Temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s arrived on May 11 through May 12 and the air conditioner serving the home did not turn on until 8:30 pm, May 12. The lowered humidity level achieved comfort levels in the home never before experienced.

The employee said, “Within 45 seconds after toweling off after a shower my skin was completely dry. My wife commented that the comfort level throughout the entire home was significantly higher, the air smelled very fresh, and she couldn’t believe the air conditioner had not turned on until the evening of the second day of 85+ degree temperatures. She especially liked getting ready for work comfortably in front of the bathroom sink/mirror after her shower without dampness of any kind.”

He went on to say that the basement is warm, comfortable, and is maintaining the same temperature as the main level, unlike most basements during air conditioning season in the Northwest Indiana region. This is an unexpected benefit we didn’t anticipate.

Relative humidity levels at or below 50% eliminate the chance for mold or mildew colonies to grow, and dust mites cannot survive at these proper humidity levels. Whole house dehumidifiers can help allergy and asthma sufferers by effectively eliminating these sources of allergen triggers.

February 15 – 18, 2011 - Kent Heating and Air Conditioning employees Allen Kent, Don Staack, Bob Nichols, and Greg Rudd attended the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) national conference in San Antonio, Texas (see www.acca.org). The conference brings together the top contracting firms in the nation for three days of learning labs, an Indoor Air Expo featuring the industry leading manufacturers showing the latest in HVAC and business technology, Quality Assurance programs, and other leading edge offerings from the largest, most respected association in the HVAC industry.

Dec. 7-9, 2010 - Kent Heating and Air Conditioning is now an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Certified Installer for Geothermal systems after Allen Kent attended a rigorous three day class and successfully passed a final exam in Indianapolis. The class focused on all aspects of proper geothermal design and installation, which will help ensure Kent’s customers are receiving the highest quality geothermal installations in the Northwest Indiana region.
